Hokkaido is home to many popular chocolates that make the perfect souvenir

A popular destination even among international tourists in Japan, Hokkaido is a region that is recognized throughout Japan for its dairy. Many brands that sell delicious western-style confectionery and chocolate are found here. You may have heard of well-known brands like ROYCE and LeTAO at least once somewhere.

Are there any good places to shop? What are the recommended places?

During sightseeing in Hokkaido, tourists often don't have too much time to shop for souvenirs, and since baggage is also bulky, it seems more efficient to buy them on the last day of your trip if at all possible. We recommend shopping at the stores in the New Chitose Airport Terminal Building. It is very convenient because you can shop for a variety of popular Hokkaido souvenirs, including confectionery, all in one place.

Another advantage is that it is easy to find what you want among the many souvenirs. The building also offers a wide range of services for travelers, so if you are ever in doubt, definitely shop here. (Shopping is also available for those who are not flying).

Take a tour around the Shiroi Koibito factory

Shiroi Koibito is THE ultimate souvenir people think of when it comes to Hokkaido. Ishiya Seiyaku Co., Ltd., the company behind the brand, allows visitors to take a tour of the factory at Shiroi Koibito Park in Sapporo City where you can see how the Shiroi Koibito langue de chat cookies are made.

A great place worth putting on your itinerary if you are a chocolate lover or even just have a passing interest. Beyond the factory tour, you can try your hand at making your own sweets, buy souvenirs and sweets only available at this factory, and a play area for children as well. This Sapporo sightseeing spot is great fun for both adults and children.

Bring back the perfect souvenir with these classic chocolates

Nama hocolate (ROYCE')

ROYCE' nama chocolate is characterized by its extremely soft texture, which is created by using an abundance of high-quality fresh cream from Hokkaido, with a higher moisture content than that of regular nama chocolate. In addition to the products sold year-round, there are also a wide variety of seasonal nama chocolates. If you are not sure which one to choose, you should buy the most popular [Au Lait].

Shiroi Koibito (Ishiya Seiyaku)

A popular souvenir product of Hokkaido that has been loved for more than 40 years since its launch. The cookies are baked into a savory langue de chat and sandwiches a slice of smooth white chocolate, giving them a light and crispy texture. There are smaller packs of nine cookies as well as a box of 54 that comes in a tin Shiroi Koibito box. You will be able to find the perfect one for your needs.

Tokibi Choco CORN CHOCOLATE (HORI)

Tokibi means corn. Crunchy puffs made from Hokkaido corn are coated with carefully-selected high-quality white chocolate to make these easy-to-eat, bite-sized confections. In addition to the standard products, flavors such as Yubari King melon, caramel, HI milk chocolate (milk chocolate with higher amounts of milk), and Hokkaido strawberry are also available.

Potatochip Chocolate (ROYCE’)

The flavor of salty potato chips goes well with the rich sweetness of chocolate. The potato chips are slightly thick-cut and firm in texture. One side of the chip is generously coated with smooth, rich chocolate. This unexpected combination of salty and sweet is addictive once you try it.

Strawberry Chocolate (Rokkatei)

Inside the large piece of chocolate is a whole freeze-dried strawberry, and only fully-ripe strawberries are used. The contrast between the fresh sweet and sour taste of the strawberries and the mild sweetness of the chocolate is impressive. The mouthfeel is light and the strawberries inside are crispy. There are two types of chocolate: white chocolate and milk chocolate.

Shiroi Black Thunder (Yuraku Seika)

This is a Hokkaido limited edition version of the famous Japanese chocolate confectionery Black Thunder. Cocoa cookies and plain biscuits are coated with white chocolate made from Hokkaido milk and beet sugar to create a chocolate candy with a crunchy texture. It would be interesting to compare it with the regular black chocolate Black Thunder.
